Vale Base Metals and BluestOne, a specialist in agricultural waste transformations, have begun a progressive collaboration to convert refinery waste into carbon-efficient mineral fertilizers. This alliance represents a vital step towards industrial sustainability, promoting the effective use of waste and contributing to environmental protection.
Over the next decade, this strategic partnership will witness the transformation of up to 50,000 tonnes per year of refinery slag, dramatically reducing waste generation. Vale Base Metals, part of a global leader in iron ore and nickel, will provide the necessary refinery slag. In turn, BluestOne will utilize its innovative technology to convert this industrial waste product into beneficial fertilizers.
Moreover, BluestOne has announced plans to construct a processing plant in proximity to Vale Base Metals' Onça Puma mine in Brazil, which will aid the efficient transport and transformation of the slag. Scheduled for completion in the next two years, this facility will serve as the pivot point for this groundbreaking initiative.
